At Phillips & Co, we consider the health of your gums of paramount importance as they are the foundation of your smile and potentially even your general health.

Gingivitis and periodontitis are the two main forms of gum disease and, if left unchecked, gingivitis can cause the gums to separate from the teeth. This can cause injury to the soft tissue and bone supporting the teeth. The tooth may become loose and unstable. If the infection progresses, you may ultimately lose your tooth or need it extracted – this advanced stage of gum disease is known as periodontitis.

The bacteria in the oral biofilm (commonly known as plaque) are responsible for gum disease, but they can also spread through the gums ino the rest of the body. Research shows that inflammation and bacteria associated with gum disease may contribute to or worsen other health conditions.

At Phillips & Co, we are proud to be able to offer Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT), which is a huge step up from the ’Traditional scale & Polish)

The use of disclosing agents in GBT allows patients to visualise biofilm and better understand its impact on their oral health. This fosters greater compliance with oral hygiene routines, and also allows us to know that we have removed it all during your visit!

GBT focuses on minimally invasive, pain-free treatment. The EMS system uses a combination of Airflow, Perioflow, and Piezon technologies that work at lower pressure and with finer control than traditional scalers. The warm water spray in the Airflow is also more comfortable for patients. Patient comfort is a priority for us!

Regular GBT sessions have been shown to improve periodontal health outcomes and reduce the risk of caries by maintaining low biofilm levels compared to traditional scaling techniques.

For those who need extra care, we will schedule more frequent appointments to address any specific oral health concerns – potentially, if this is required, one of our Dental Membership plans may be of value.
