Many people with crooked teeth don’t like the idea of metal braces. They can be uncomfortable, are very visible, and often need to stay on for long periods.
However, there is another option available for those who want to fix their teeth. At Phillips & Co Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer discrete Invisalign orthodontic treatment, which uses clear plastic trays to improve your smile without anyone knowing.
Invisalign clear aligner trays are custom made for your mouth. So, before you begin treatment, your dentist takes a 3D scan of your teeth. This data is put into a software program that maps out the progress of your teeth throughout treatment. This information is then sent to an offsite lab, where your Invisalign aligners are fabricated.
The clear aligners use pressure to slowly push your teeth into alignment, reducing your chance of developing health problems from your crooked teeth.
You’ll need to change your trays out every 2 weeks but will only need to see your every 6-8 weeks. At each appointment, they will examine your teeth to ensure the trays are working effectively.
Invisalign trays are removable. You’ll need to take them out to eat, drink, and brush your teeth. However, for maximum effect, keep your trays in for at least 22 hours a day.
Once your teeth are straightened, you will be fitted for a retainer to prevent your teeth from returning to their original position.
The length of the treatment is unique to each patient. Some people require minimal straightening and may finish their treatment in less than 6 months, while others may need a year or more to reach their ideal smile.
